A rose geranium is a type of geranium plant with leaves that smell strongly like roses. This species of geranium is native to certain parts of Africa. Geranium oil has been used for centuries for its beneficial properties. In a 2014 study published in the Advanced Pharmaceutical Bulletin (*11) regarding anti-fungal and antibacterial activity, the essential oil outperformed the drugs currently in place to treat both fungal infections as well as other bacterial infections. Rose geranium is useful for all skin and hair conditions as it regulates and balances sebum production to heal conditions of dryness or excess oil. Since geranium oil balances the body’s secretions around the hair follicles, it’s an effective agent for hair growth. A 2017 study published in BMC Complimentary and Alternative Medicine proved it did promote hair growth. Rose Geranium oil in aromatherapy relieves anxiety and depression and lifts the spirits.
