Amaranth Seed Oil

“LOVE LIES BLEEDING IN THE GARDEN” The history of the Amaranth plant Amaranthus caudatus goes back about 8000 years ago when this crop was an indispensible part of the culinary, medicinal and spiritual practices of the Aztecs. As a result of it’s deep crimson and purple colored cascading flowers, it is known and recognized by the name “love lies bleeding in the garden”. Unfortunately, because of its use in spiritual practices the Spaniards conquering Mexico and South America tried to suppress its use, though fortunately today it is now widely cultivated around the world. Neil Naturopathic Amaranth Seed Oil is organically crafted and sustainably sourced from India and is extracted using supercritical CO2 extraction from the seeds of the Amaranth plant. Amaranth Oil is very rich in protein, amino acids, tocopherols and tocotrienols (vitamin E complex), plant sterols (phytosterols), carotenoids, vitamins, and most importantly Squalene, a lipid found naturally in the skin. High in omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, Amaranth Seed Oil penetrates the skin quickly without feeling greasy on the skin. Its ability to penetrate deep into the skin tissue helps it transport other oils and ingredients that cannot penetrate easily through the skin on their own. The rich squalene content (the highest of any plant) imparts anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidation properties apart from being a natural skin identical chemical that forms a protective, waterproof barrier to prevent TEWL (Trans Epidermal Water Loss) aiding moisture retention. Amaranth Oil has quality protein and 8 amino acids, most notably lysine, which has been proven to support hair growth and prevent hair loss. In addition it is high in Vitamin A, B, B6, C and K. Moreover, its nutrient-dense composition gives Amaranth Oil excellent skin regeneration properties, which becomes especially important for those who suffer from scalp conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis, and eczema. Known for its super emollient and deeply hydrating properties, Amaranth Oil can naturally help increase hair’s strength, elasticity and consistently restore shine to dull, damaged and devitalized hair. All these properties make Amaranth Oil a fabulous conditioner for hair and can help to keep the scalp healthy when used as a pre-shampoo oil treatment. Neil Naturopathic uses Amaranth Seed Oil as the base oil of our pre-treatment Elixir Oil.
